Hon. W. F. Cody (Buffalo Bill), his wife and several members of his troupe, including the Indian, visited the torpedo station yesterday afternoon and were shown over the island by Mr. A. P. Bashford, mate of the Nina. They also visited the Alarm and the Nina.
LIFE ON THE PLAINS. Buffalo Bill gave an excellent entertainment at the Opera House last evening, to a large and appreciative audience. The principal scenes were laid in the west, and the border life with all its dangers was vividly portrayed. the Mountain Meadow massacre, the perfidy of Brigham Young and J. D. Lee, who has paid the penalty of his crime by death, and the Danitos, Young's tools, were brought out with fine effect, considering the capacity of the stage. The genuine Sioux Indian, who was on the street and in the News office yesterday, was on the stage and amused the audience. The hero of the evening, Buffalo Bill, was greeted with deafening applause when he made his appearance, and was assured of a hearty welcome should he ever visit Newport again.
