Second contribution for National Defense Student Loan Fund received

the National Defense Student Loan Fund at the University of Nebraska. Under terms of the agreement signed earlier, the University is required to place in the fund an amount equal to at least one-ninth of the federal contribution. In March, 1959, the sum of $10,581 was received from the Office of Education and and $1,176 was allocated by the Board of Regents from the Carl Herman Larson bequest, both of these amounts being credited to the National Defense Student Loan Fund. The original bequest from Mr. Larson was in the amount of $14,564.48 and was granted to the University of Nebraska without restriction.

Matching funds from Natl.Defense Student Loan from Carl Herman Larson estate

It was moved by Regent Greenberg, seconded by Regent Welsh, motion put to vote and carried that the additional sum of $5,413.00 be allocated from the Carl Herman Larson bequest to the National Defense Student Loan Fund in keeping with the requirement that the University place in the National Defense Student Loan Fund amounts equal to at least one-ninth of the federal contributions credited to this fund.

Modify Lease Agreement with Nebraska Book Company, Inc.

From the Business Manager comes a request for modification of the Lease Agreement with Nebraska Book Company, Inc. covering space occupied by the School of Music. Under terms of the modification the expiration date of the lease is extended to June 30, 1961 and the rental is reduced from $345 per month to $300 per month effective January 1, 1959.

It was moved by Regent Foote, seconded by Regent Greenberg, motion put to vote and carried, that the president and corporation secretary be authorized and directed to execute the modification of lease Agreement as recommended.

Authorize Amendment No. 1 to Contract No. ICA-W-610 for work in Turkey

It was moved by Regent Adkins, seconded by Regent Welsh, motion put to vote and carried, that the president be authorized and directed to execute Amendment No. I to Contract No. ICA-W-610, the contract for work in Turkey. This amendment adds $567,000 to total obligated funds under the contract and provides firm budget commitment on the part of ICA for operations through June 30, 1960.

Authorize supl.agreement No. 4, Atomic Energy Commission covering research by Dr. C. O. Gardner

It was moved by Regent Foote, seconded by Regent Welsh, motion put to vote and carried, that the president be authorized and directed to execute Supplement No. 4 to Atomic Energy Commission Contract AT(11-1)-352 covering research by Dr. C. O. Gardner of the Department of Agronomy. This supplement provides additional funds in the amount of $8,000 in support of research during the next year.

Authorize Supplement to Atomic Energy Commission-research by Dr. Haskins

It was moved by Regent Foote, seconded by Regent Welsh, motion put to vote and carried, that the president be authorized and directed to execute Supplement No. 3 to Atomic Energy Commission Contract No. AT(11-1)-393 covering research by Dr. F. A. Haskins of the Department of Agronomy. This supplement provides additional funds in the amount of $5,680 in support of research through March 31, 1960.

Authorize Agreement with Tennessee Valley Authority for coop. research NEBR.1131

It was moved by Regent Foote, seconded by Regent Adkins, motion put to vote and carried, that the president be authorized and directed to execute Agreement No. NEBR.1131- between the University of Nebraska and the Tennessee Valley Authority in connection with cooperative research on "Factors Affecting Response of Corn to Phosphorus Fertilizers in Nebraska." This Agreement provides that TVA will make available funds in the amount of $13,750 and fertilizer materials provided by TVA that are necessary for the project. The agreement is effective through December 31, 1961.

It was moved by Regent Adkins, seconded by Regent Welsh, motion put to vote and carried, (Regent Foote not voting) directing acceptance of the following research and training grants as reported by Dean John C. Weaver, Research Administrator, under dates of April 22 and June 1, 1959.
