Accept Adele Gumaer Aitchison Trust-annual scholarship

It was moved by Regent Foote, seconded by Regent Elliott, motion put to vote and carried, directing the acceptance of the residue of the Adele Gumaer Aitchison Trust to be held by the University of Nebraska as part of its permanent funds for the establishment of a memorial to be known as the "Robert Leslie Gumaer Memorial", the net income of which shall be used to provide annual scholarships in the University of Nebraska.

From the Business Manager, Mr. Carl A. Donaldson, comes a recommendation submitted by Dean J. P. Tollman of the College of Medicine, for the paving of a parking lot between 44th Street and 44th Avenue and Jackson and Emile Streets, on the College of Medicine Campus. It was pointed out that a new parking lot must be developed in that the present parking lot adjacent to Unit No. 3 will be eliminated when the added construction to the College of Medicine is undertaken.

Authorize Business Manager to negotiate with John Latenser on plans and spec. for parking lot-Coll. of Med.

It was moved by Regent Elliott, seconded by Regent Greenberg, motion put to vote and carried, directing that the Business Manager, Mr. Carl A. Donaldson, be authorized to negotiate with John Latenser and Sons of Omaha, for the preparation of plans and specifications for the necessary paving of the proposed parking lot at 44th and Jackson.

It was moved by Regent Swanson, seconded by Regent Greenberg, motion put to vote and carried, directing the following gifts of works of art to be presented to the University Art Galleries be accepted:

Accept works of art from Mrs. Edo H. Anderson, David W. Seyler, Jeanne H. Richards, The Landau Gallery, Mrs. Halpert and Dr. Carpani

An oil painting, "The Stray", by Zanna Anderson, presented by Mrs. Edo H. Anderson, 825 West 187th St., New York City.

Set of ten wood engravings by James Flora presented by David W. Seyler, Dept. of Art, Morrill Hall, City Campus

An Engraving, "Paysage du Lot", by Anthony Gross presented by Miss Jeanne H. Richards, Dept. of Art, Morrill Hall, City Campus.

A half tone engraving by Keith Finch, presented by the Landau Gallery, 702 North La Cienega Blvd., Los Angeles 46, Calif.

A painting by John Foote, Jr. presented by Mrs. Edith Gregor Halpert, 32 East 51st Street, New York 22, N. Y.

A painting, oil on paper, entitled "Marine Monsters of the Abyss", by Dr. Enrico Gerardo Carpani presented by the artist.

Student Tribunal

From the Student Council and with the approval of the University Senate comes a Charter of the Student Tribunal of the University of Nebraska.

Approve Student Tribunal

It was moved by Regent Foote, seconded by Regent Swanson, motion put to vote and carried, directing the proposed Charter of the Student Tribunal of the University of Nebraska be approved and accepted.

Executive Session

It was moved by Regent Greenberg, seconded by Regent Foote, motion put to vote and carried, directing the Board of Regents now sit in executive session for the purpose of considering Honorary Degree recipients, Distinguished Service Awards and the Nebraska Builder Award.

Nominate Honorary Degree Recipients

From the Faculty Committee for nomination of Honorary Degree recipients comes the nomination of Dr. G. P. Sprague to receive the Honorary Degree Doctor of Science. In addition from the Chancellor's office comes recommendation that Dr. Franklin Murphy be given the Honorary Degree Doctor of Science.

It was moved by Regent Greenberg, seconded by Regent Elliott, motion put to vote and carried, directing that Honorary Degrees be awarded to the following persons at the time of the June, 1958 Commencement:

Distinguished Service Awards

It was moved by Regent Elliott, seconded byRegent Swanson, motion put to vote and carried directing the following persons shall receive Distinguished Service Awards from the Alumni Association:

Nebraska Builder Award to Otto Kotouc, Sr.

For the Nebraska Builder Award which is made by the Board of Regents the following persons were nominated by the Board: Mr. Otto Kotouc, Sr. of Humboldt, Nebraska, and Mr. Ralph O. Canaday of Hastings, Nebraska. It was moved by Regent Greenberg, seconded by Regent Elliott, motion put to vote and carried, that the nomination for Nebraska Builder Award be closed. Written ballot revealed the Nebraska Builder Award for 1958 shall be given to Mr. Otto Kotouc, Sr.

There being no further business, the Board adjourned.

Special Meeting April 22, 1958

Lincoln, Nebraska April 22, 1958

The Board of Regents of the University met on this day for a special meeting at 2:00 o'clock P. M. in the Administration Building on the city campus in Lincoln.

Regents present: C. Y. Thompson, President Frank O. Foote J. G. Elliott B. N Greenberg C. E. Swanson

Regents absent: J. L. Welsh

University officials present: Messrs. Clifford M. Hardin, Chancellor A. C. Breckenridge, Dean of Faculties Joseph Soshnik, Assistant Corporation Secretary Carl A. Donaldson, Business Manager

Minutes approved

The minutes of the p roceedings of the Board at their meeting held April 1, 1958, were approved, copy of the same having been transmitted to the several members of the Board under its order of October 1, 1926.

From the Chancellor's office come reports of resignations, leave of absence requests and adjustments in work and salary. Money being available for these purposes from former apportionment by the Board, the following actions are taken.

College of Agriculture Walter W. Rowden, Assistant in Animal Husbandry at the Fort Robinson Research Station, at $5320 per year effective April 1, 1958: in place of James E. Ingalls.

College of Arts and Sciences Robert Forster, Assistant Professor of History, at $5500 per year effective September 1, 1958; in place of Burdette C. Poland.

College of Law Claire D. Johnson, Teaching-Research Associate in Law, at $4500 per year effective September 1, 1958 to May 31, 1959; in place of John M. Winters.

College of Medicine Dorothy H. Hubbard, Assistant Instructor in Neurology and Psychiatry, without salary, effective July 1, 1958; salary to be paid by Board of Control.

Hanson, resigned.

Glenn W. Nickles, $250 stipend for teaching Adult Vocational Agriculture classes at Curtis School of Agriculture, effective April 1, 1958.
