Com. on C. of S. in Relation to Rept. of Dean Bessey.

The committee on course of study reported as following: The committee on course of study to whom was referred the report of Professor Chas. E. Bessey Dean of Industrial College, submits the following: That we heartily approve of the general plan of work as set forth in the report, and recommend that the suggestions therein specified be carried out as rapidly as our deans and facilities will permit. J. T. Mallalieu, Chairman. On motion the report of the committee was received and adopted.

Telephone for Chancellor Res.

Regent Holmes moved that the secretary be authorized to procure a telephone instrument to be placed in th chancellors residence: which motion prevailed.

Resignation of Miss Smith Accepted

Regent Burnman moved that the resignation of Miss Ellen Smith as Principal of the Latin School, presented to the board at the June meeting 1884, be accepted, as taking effect of that date: which motion also prevailed.

Leave of Absence to Chancellor &c.

Regent Burnman moved as follows: That Chancellor Manatt be granted leave of absence to visit medical colleges, at any time between this date and the March 1885 meeting of this board. At the suggestion of other members and by common consent, was added the following: That Regent Burnham be requested to accompany the chancellor upon this buisness and that they be reimbursed their expenses. The motion as modified prevailed and it was so ordered.

Professors to be Paid Travelling Expenses.

Regent Mallalieu moved that the travelling expenses of Professors, to different parts of the state, visiting high schools &c., on behalf of the university , be paid. The motion prevailed and it is so ordered.

$40.00 for Prof. Hick's Dep't.

The finance committee reporting upon the recommendation of Prof. Hicks for and appropriation of $40.00 to furnish materials &c. for the work in minekalogy, sumitted the following: The finance committee concur in the within recommenation. J. M. Hiatt ) M. J. Hull ) com. On motion the report of the committee was received and adopted and the appropriation so ordered.

2000 Copies of Chanc. Rep. &c. to be Printed

Regent Hull moved that 2000 copies of the chancellors [dr?] report and accompany ing department reports, be printed, and that 500 copies of the same be [dr?] with the regents [dr?] report. The motion pre vailed and it is so ordered.

Report of Finance Committee Culbertsons Rept.

The finance committee submitted the following: 1. We have examined Prof. Culbertsons re port and find the same correct, that there is now in his hands the sum of $21.75.

Mc.Millans Libr'y Report.

2. The report of Geo. Mc.Milln of the con dition of the library fund, shows $365.46 on hand June 1st, 1884. Expended since that time $125.72 balance on hand $239.74.

Howards Libr'y Report (Spec'l)

3. The report of G.E.Howard shows that the special appropriation of $300.00 made to purchase books for his department, has seen expended vouchers accompanying report.

SUPT. SAVAGES REP.

4. The committee find that superintendant Savage has expended the $200.00 appropri ated for repairs on building and the sum of $20.51 in addition to such amount vouc ers accompanying

$152.82 DUE SAVAGE

The committee alsofurther find that Supt. Savage has recieved from various sources the sum of $1775.15 that he has paid out $1928.14, leaving balance due him of $152.82

The committee also find that the Supt. has incurred indebbtedness amounting to $3730.21. That of this sum $2485.50 has been expendedfor stuck, the remainder be ing for expense of farm.

$235. TO PAY RUSS'L $70. TO STRAUBERG

5. The committee recommend that the bill of S.B.Russell amounting to $235.00, and that of N. Strauberg for $70.00 be paid:

BILLS LAID OVER.

That the remainder of the bills be laid over until the next meeting.

$5.45 TO PAY KNIGHT

6. The committee recommend that the bill of W.C.Knight for labor on university building, amounting to $5/65 be paid.

On motion the coard then adjourned to meet March 18th, 1885 at 2 O'Clock P.M.

Proceedings of the Executive Commitee,

The Executive Commitee of the Board of Regents of the University of Nebraska, met at the office of C. H. Gere President of the Board and Chairman of said Commitee, in Lincoln, Nebraska,

January 13, 1885

Purduant to the call of the Chairman President C. H. Gere, to attend to the buisness of said commitee delegated to them at the December A.D. 1884 meeting of the Board of Regents.

President, Regents Gene, Niatt and Hull, a full commitee.

The resignation of Dr. R. Livingstone as Professor of Surgery was recieved, and the report of the President that Professors S. D. Mercer and A. R. Mitchell had volunteered to divide the work of the Chair of Principles and Practice of Surgery.

The petition of Dr. O. C. Reynoplds of Seward, nebraska, signed by numerous citizens for appointment to the Chair of Surgery was recieved and placed on file.

On motion it was ordered that the services of Professors Mercer and Mitchell in the Chair of Surgery, for the remainder of the term be accepted.

A report was recieved from the Superintendant of the College Farm, of estimates of expenses for the same for two years, and the same order filled.

Ordered, that in the opinion of the Committee the minimum price of University and Indsutrial College Endowment lands, should not be less than fifteen dollars per acre.

Pursuant to the Order made at the adjourment of the December meeting, 1884, the Board of Regents of the University of Nebraska met at the Office of the Chancellor in the University Buiilding at 2 o'clock P. M.

There being no quorum present at this time it is ordered by the members present, Regents Rurnam, Gere, and Hull, that the Board adjourn until tomorrow at 1.30 o'clock P. M. pending a call from the absent members, Regents Hiatt Holmes and Malalieu.

Lincoln, Nebraska March 13th 1885.

The members of the Board of Regents present, Leavitt Burnham, Chas. H. Gere and Milton J. Hull, assembled at the hour designated, and no word having yet been recieved from abesnt members, and the hour having arrived for the closing exercises in the Medical College, it is agreed that the Chancellor shall publicly confer the respective degrees upon the candidates therefor in the Medical College as they are recommended, subject to the approval and ratification of the Board of Regents, when quorum shall be present.

thereupon the Regents adjourned to meet on Wednesday March 25th, 1885 at 9 o'clock A. M.

The Board of Regents of the University of Nebraska, met at the hour designated in their last proceeding order of adjournment, at the usual place.

Present, regents C. H. Gere, L. Burnham, J. M. Hiatt, and M. J. Hull, absent Regents E. P. Holmes and J. T. Mallalieu.

The Chancellor presented to the Board the following names of candidates for degrees in the Medical College, and upon whom the Degree of Doctor of Medicine was by him confirmed on the 19th. Inst., Viz:

Andrew Bernie, James A. Van Camp, Orin E. Mullvane, Ernest D. Svenson, Charles Trumbull, Mrs. Mary C. Case

In the Homeopathic section: David R. Bell, Willis E. Buck, Miss Emma J. Davies, Mrs. Mary A. Howard, Miss Georgioa A. Arbuckle, M. D.

In the Eclectic Section: Mortimer H. Farmer, Hershel B. Cummins.

ART. $300. FOR 1886. REGENT HIATT MOVED THAT MISS SARAH K. MOORE BE ALLOWED AND PAID THE SUM OF TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR THE YEAR 1885 FOR THE PURPOSE OF CONSTRUCTING AN ELECTIVE COURSE OF LECTURES IN ART & C., ALSO THAT SHE IS GUARANTEED THE SUM OF THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR THE YEAR 1886 TO CONTINUE THE SAME INSTRUCTION, WHICH MOTION PREVAILED.

$125. TO DUDLEY REGENT HIATT MOVED THAT ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FIVE DOLLARS BE ALLOWED TO LIET. E.S. DUDLEY FOR EXTRA SERVICES IN THE SCIENTIFIC DEPARTMENT, FROM JANUARY 1ST TO JULY 1ST. 1885 WHICH MOTION ALSO PREVAILED.

RELATING TO ADJUNCT PROF. OF LATIN & CHAS. E. BENNETT. ACT. PRIN'L AND SALARY- FACULTY VOTE. ON MOTION THE FOLLOWING WAS ADOPTED: RESOLVED THAT THE POSITION OF ADJUNCT PROFESSOR OF LATIN, IN THE ACADEMIC COLLEGE BE DISCONTINUED, AND THAT MR. CHAS. E. BENNETT BE ACTING PRINCIPAL OF THE LATIN SCHOOL, AS FROM JANUARY 1ST. 1885 TO JUNE 30TH, 1885, WITH SALARY AT THE RATE OF $1500.00 PER YEAR, WITH A VOTE IN THE FACULTY ON ALL QUESTIONS AFFECTING THE LATIN SCHOOL.

ENTRANCE EXAM'N WHERE HELD & C.

EXPENSES. ON MOTION THE FOLLOWING WAS ALSO ADOPTED: RESOLVED THAT THE FACUTLY BE AUTHORIZED TO HOLD EXAMINATIONS FOR ADMISSION IN JUNE AT LINCOLN AND SUCH OTHER PLACES AS MAY SEEM DESIRABLE, AND THE CHANCELLOR BE AUTHORIZED TO DRAW UPON THE INCIDENTAL FUND IN PAYMENT OF NECESSARY EXPENSES THEREFOR. 34
