Adjourned June session A. D. 1884.

Lincoln, Nebraska Aug. 22D. 1884.

The board of regents of the University of Nebraska, met at 2 o'clock p.m. at the chancellors office, pursuant to the terms of the order of adjournment in June last and upon the following call by the president:

Lincoln, Neb, Aug. 12/84.
Pursuant to the order of the board of regents made at their last adjournment in June 1884, a meeting of said board is hereby called for Friday Aug. 22D. '84 at the usual place at 2 o'clock p.m.
C.H. Gere President.
Which said notice was forwarded to each member of the board.

Present, regents L. Burnham, C.H. Gere, E.P. Holmes and J.T. Mallalieu.
Absent, regents J.M. Hiatt & M.J. Hull.

The minutes of the last preceeding meeting were read and approved.

Secretary's verbal report, band room out-houses &c.

The secretary made a verbal report of matters referred to him at the June session cost of fitting up room for band $53.00 rebuilding out-houses & c., reporting also bills filed, bids for coal received, and applications for chairs and janitorship.

Coal bids opened
Whitebreast Coal Co. awarded contract at $10.30

The secretary, being directed by the president, open the bids received for furnishing coal the University for the coming winter, and the bid of A.C. Cass for the Whitebreast Coal Company being the lowest bid regent Burnham moved that the bid of said Whitebreast Coal Co. for furnishing coal delivered at $10.30 per ton be accepted and the secretary instructed to procure the mecessary amount of fuel, which motion prevailed.

Prof. Bessey salary of &c. instructor &c. to be procured by him.

Regent Burnham moved that Prof. elect C.E. Bessey, be employed as professor of botany and horticulture at a salary of $2,000. Per annum and an addition sum. of $500. for purposed extra services for the first year, and that we be authorized to procure an instructor in agriculture for the University, at a salary not to exceed $1,200.
Which motion prevailed.

A communication was received from supt. E.P. Savage and referred to the finance committee.
