Charles E. Bessey Lincoln, Neb. Dear Sir: I have just received your valueble report on "Native Trees and Shrubs of Nebraska" But pardon me if I make some suggestions. You seemed to have left Dakota and Thurston Co's. "out in the cold" Every tree that grows in Burt Co also grows in Dakota and Thurston Cos. and are larger and finer trees. In fact the finest body of Bur Oak, Red Oak Red and White Elm, Black Walnut in the State etc.etc. grows in these counties.

BEST ADVERTISING MEDIUM IN PLAIN AND ORNAMENTAL [JOB] EASTERN NEBRASKA. PRINTING A SPECIALITY. OFFICE OF THE LYONS MIRROR. THE ONLY NEWS PAPER IN LYONS M. M. WARNER, PUBLISHER.

Lyons Nebraska, 189 I have cut down Black Walnut trees in Dakota Co. which were over 300 years old and over 4 ft. in diameter. In 1860 Dr. Groffe shipped from Dakota Co. to Omaha 100,000 feet of walnut lumber. There are also in Dakota Co. five trees of Rock or Hickory elm, used for foundation timbers, sills, etc. etc. and also some Black Haw. I have not looked over your report very carefully, but I think you do not mention anything except Butternut & Birch which do . not grow in Dakota Co. Very Respectfully, M. M. Warner

My Dear Professor:

I believe I spoke to you of my intended appendix to my catalogue while in Nebraska this winter but am not sure. Mr Williams, Ridlerg and Pound have promised to and are I believe preparing for me lists of such additions and corrections as they have noted. I have myself a few, and I think we will have quite a respectable appendix. I have asked Pound to run over the catalogue very carefully and bring every name to his finest conception of "correct Latin" I have told Trelease of this since and he thinks it a capital scheme. Have I your approbation in all this? As I say I have forgotten whether I spoke to you definitely or not but believe I spoke of it. If my scheme meets your approval I would thank you for such notes and additions that you have collected and am willing to furnish one.

In regard to publication, I can
