Columbia, Mo., Jan. 6. 1891

Prof. C. E. Bessey, Lincoln, Neb.

Dear Professor: -

Knowing the calls made upon your time I am reluctant to ask even a few moments but remembering your kindness to me last summer I make bold to address you. I want to get a microscope and [?] [?] for the study of the lower plants. Will you tell me the kind of microscope to buy, also how and where to buy it, and will you give me a list of the books

that will best aid me in my work and at the same time be in reach of my purse! I cannot afford just now to spend more than sixty or seventy dollars for books and microscope.

I shall regard it as a great [?] if you will give me the information I have asked. It was very foolish of me to leave Lincoln last summer without it but I was so homesick then that I could not stay longer. I may be with you again next summer if you will consent to take me as a pupil.

Very respectfully, Ida [Clendermin?] Columbia, Mo.
