I have cut down Black Walnut trees in Dakota Co. which were over 300 years old and over 4 ft. in diameter. In 1860 Dr. Groffe shipped from Dakota Co. to Omaha 100,000 feet of walnut lumber. There are also in Dakota Co. five trees of Rock or Hickory elm, used for foundation timbers, sills, etc. etc. and also some Black Haw. I have not looked over your report very carefully, but I think you do not mention anything except Butternut & Birch which do . not grow in Dakota Co.
Very Respectfully, M. M. Warner
