AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE, AMES, IOWA
Department of Botany, Nov. 16th 1888.
Dear Dr Bessey:
Your letter came at a time when the librarian had ordered all books in and was taking the inventory. I drew the Journal for you at earliest possible minute and mailed it to you. I should have written you this note yesterday but could not find the time. Our year has closed the students have all gone and only the Board still remains what [?] are to come off remains also to be seen -- These agricultural colleges are certainly strange institutions as you well know.
I have been wanting to ask a favor of you for some time but have not had the courage to ask any time of you as I know you are

very busy - I desire to get a flora of Nebraska if one is published, and a list of the twenty worst weeds for Lincoln and its vicinity. Then two desires may be met at once if you can check off from the Neb. flora the weeds beginning with one (1} for the worst and so on - I should like a full list of the common names for each species Any additional notes as to prevalence, persistency and eradication, etc. will be gladly received and and fully credited.
After a time I may impose upon you further by providing you a list of printed questions upon American weeds native and introduced, I am anxious to get as many local lists or floras as possible.
This winter we remain here I hope to enjoy a quiet season with kind regards from Mrs Halsted and myself to you all I am Yours sincerly
Byron D. Halsted
P.S. I noted that 1 time 1876 we [dent] had this article you mentioned.
