I have the honor to inform you that at a meeting of the Board of Regents of the University held July 10th to 19th 1888 (Adjourned June session) you were elected Dean of the Academic Faculty for the current year, actual service as such to begin Sept. 1/88, to which date present Dean is requested to continue service.

The reason for my giving you formal official notice of this action is, that by the action of the Board dispensing with services of Chancellor Manatt on Jan. 7/89 and releiving him from duty immediately, you become by virtue of this appointment acting Chancellor.
