My dear Bessey,

I am much obliged to you for the newspaper containing a report of the Board Meeting. I am thinking quite seriously of accepting the position but will wait until I learn the results of the Board meeting on Jany 13th. The new president is [?] to be appointed. They have not settled on any house for me and I am not inclined to go into the boarding hall – and the town is too far away for the daily trips, I should think.

I shall wish to know just where you left off with the

classes; what text books etc.

I hope you are having everything satisfactory at Lincoln, and shall be pleased to have you "run over" and make me a visit, should I get to Ames. Your house they talk of giving to the new President. The salary is smaller than I supposed it would be, but only three of the oldest professors – Welch Knapp & Budd receive $1800.

With many thanks for all your kindness I am

Yours very truly Byron D. Halsted

Dear Professor Bessey,

I will get the fireplace fixtures of Mr. Wright. Miss [Arthur?] and Prof Stanton both said that the registers were at Mr Wright's but I fail to find them and have ordered new ones. The screens we shall probably need later in the season. Professor Stanton says there is a pile of wood which you wish to sell. This I will take. It is now about [?] covered with snow. I think Professor Stanton told me your price is $39. I wish you to trust me for a few weeks as my [?] [??] [?] and the incomes.

I am quite anxious to know how
