should come before your Board of Regents, and should the position be offered to me with substantially the conditions you name, I should in all probability accept it.

And this again is as definite an answer as I can give, and should your Regents require particularls please to say to them that unless they are entirely agreed that they want me to come I should prefer not to be disturbed in my present position.

It would also suit me much better so far as I now see it to ______ the engagement begin Spt 1 1886.

My dear Professor Hall.

I have been turning over the mater contained in your letter of the 23d ult. and will say judging from what you write The position will be one which I should feel like accepting.

While I can not be a candidate in usual sense (for I am well situated here) Yet I can say this much that I am willing that my name should come before your Board of Regents, and should the position be offered to me with substantially the conditions you name, I should in all probability accept it.

Now, this again is as definite an answer as I can give, and should your Regents require particularls please to say to them that unless they are entirely agreed that they want me to come I should prefer not to be disturbed in my present position.

It would also suit me much better so far as I now see it to ______ the engagement begin Sept. 1, 1886.

My dear Professor

I have been waiting with all due patience for some weeks for the time to come when this Nebraska Legislation might have done so much of its work as one could reasonably expect and duly adjourned. Believing that time has come I venture to address the inquiry to you, did that body fulfil the wishes of the regents of the University with respect to appropriations for their wishes & plans or did it fall far short of its duty?

I am anxious because I wish to know whether there is [still] [?] chance to move you or not. If you can see your way to come I am certain our regents would elect you immediately and give you unlimited opportunities for research.

If you can be persuaded it will make a material difference with my plans for aid in the immediate future and an early reply would be gratifying.

Sincerely Yours C. W. Hall

The University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, June 4 1885.

My dear Professor

I send you by this mail a box containing a plant sent me from Duluth for identification. I do not recognize it & have not much time just now to [?] to it [?] pass it on to you, — will you send me its name.

I suspect we are on the eve of a little flurry here — I read an extract from the May no. of the Botanical Gazette – Editorials – to the Executive Committee Bd of regents a day or two ago & to say it made a sensation is putting it mild.

Mr Arthur is not the man they want & they didn't know they had him.

I can write soon definitely after commencement.

Sincerely C. W. Hall

I have been trying for some time to write to you concerning the plans: I shall soon.
