Dear Sir. Prof. Farmham returned from his trip Easy last Sunday quite ill, but is improving, and hope to be well again in a short time. By his request I answer your favor of the 22nd.

He think the ostrya virginica grows here, but have found no [tell?] that [?] were the dissipation perfectly I have examined a number of these this morning, and can find none having the finish on it. I enclose a few of the leaves, three leaves are from a tree about 35 ft. high answering the description of Ostya virginica except the leaf. He shall [?]amine farther, and if we can find the fruit, will write you concerning it.

Prof. Farmham wishes to thank you for the list of broke on botony, and will procure a number of them for use in the school

Sir: I have yours of the 14th just relative to relates, etc. and in reply, beg to say that with reference to the Departments consent to use electrolytes of certain plates of Dr. Vasey's reprint on Agricul trial Grasses of the U.S.- you are at lib erty to obtain them of [Hon. Th. E. Benedict, the Public Printer, who has them in charge. They will necessitate a nominal [illegible], concerning which you will please communicate with Mr. Benedict.
