Dear Sir,
Sand cherries are beginning to get ripe now.
Everybody I have spoken to are much pleased to have you give a lecture at the assembly and the managers are sorry they did not think of it in time to have a regular farmers day devoted to agricultural subjects. But it will be advertised as much as possible. In the absence of the president of the society I can not say just when the place can be given you but he will be back Sunday evening and we will arange the date and have it published. The papers will ask the farmers not only to be present but to bring you specimens of as many varieties of plants as they will.
Yours Very Truly, C. M. Stevans.

Hastings Neb. Mond. 2[8?] 1887,
Dear Prof;
I fully expected to be in Lincoln this evening to attend the 'state Teachers Assoc." but am prevented by an aggravated form of affliction peculiar to you in his time. My [primal?] reason for wishing to attend this meeting was to try talking up the matter of resurrecting, or entirely reorganizing, a state scientific Association. Prof. Whisher informed me he thinks there has been such an organization but that it has died and owing to lack of interest. It seems to me we have enough earnest enthusiastic scientists in this state to form a very creditable organization.

which could hold some very interesting and profitable meetings. At least, we are enough that the cultivation of a mutual acquaintance would be pleasant and profitable. Especially would it be profitable to interchange views and form [flaws?] by which our work [mighble?] made more systematic and the cause of Science generally advanced all along the line. However, you have been in the state longer than I have and know more about the feasibility of such, an organization. Please let me know what you think of the advisability of talking and pushing this matter.
Yours very truly
Harvey [Harveson?]
