There is a rumor that the opening of the term is to be postponed one week – but I hear the Pres. says that he supposes the students can't get there till a week late – & I presume that is what the report started from.
I hear the storm did not extend as far north as you are – for which I am thankful – and Mrs. Welch says there has been no rain in Corning. The water still stands over a foot deep in

our cellar, but Mr. B[?] says it will do no good to try and get it out for a few days yet, as the [?] is so full of water that it will come right back again. The children all keep well – tho the heat makes them uncomfortable & occassionaly cross and fretful. [?] has had heat rash on his back for some days – yesterday he made this remark, [sic.] "If I was a dog I would scratch it with my hind leg."

I was very glad to get your little note last night – and to learn that you keep well – and are enjoying your class. I feel so sorry that your vacation is such a busy one – but hope the change will make it better for you. The past two days have been lovely & this morning is charming too.
