Prof. C. E. Bessey,
Dear Sir,

Are you willing to
write to the new Commissioner
of Agriculture, Dr. Geo. B. [Lorring?],
commending Dr. Vaseys faithful
services, & asking his retention
in office? I understand that
there is a vague possibility that
Dr. L., not knowing him, may
remove him, though nothing
definite has transpired.

I have already writen to
Dr. L., & have asked the Harvard
Botanists to do the same.

Yours very truly
D. C. Eaton.
