Julius Sterling Mortonaka J. Sterling Morton.
Was the founder of Arbor Day in 1872.
Morton was appointed Nebraska’s territorial Secretary of State from 1858-1861 and was also the acting territorial governor from 1858-1859.
He served on the Nebraska State Board of Agriculture and was a member of the state’s Horticultural Society.
President Grover Cleveland appointed Morton U.S. Secretary of Agriculture in 1893, and he served from 1893–1897.
